I just received this marriage certificate in the mail today from the State of New York. Annina Scocchio is my grandfather’s, Biagio Scocchio, sister. She came to the United States with my grandfather and their nephew, Giuseppe Cremonese. Biagio was 21, Annina was 18, and Giuseppe was 2. It is interesting to note that Giuseppe was born in January, 1903. His parents, Vincenzo and Marietta (Scocchio) Cremonese, came to the United States in April, 1903. He was only 3 months old and they left him in Italy and didn’t get to see him until 2 years later.
I have very little information on Annina and her family. I’m told she didn’t like it here and only stayed about a year before returning to Italy. Yesterday I sent an e-mail to the Rector of the Basilica of the Holy Face, the main church in Manoppello, Italy, asking for any information they can find on the Scocchio family. Today I received a reply that he had forwarded my e-mail to the parish priest of Manoppello, where all of the records are kept. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
